About Jessica:
Jessica Bergen, M.S., holds a master’s degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology and brings together her experiences as a coach, researcher, and parent to explore how athletes and teams truly develop.
She is a collegiate and developmental field hockey coach, a lifelong student of sport, and a firm believer that great environments shape great people and thus, athletes. Jessica is also a mother of three energetic boys, which means most days include some combination of sports fields, curiosity, chaos, and coffee.
Her work focuses on the intersection of athlete development, coaching practices, and the psychological side of sport. She is particularly interested in how training environments influence learning, confidence, resilience, and long-term growth.
After noticing gaps in research visibility and advocacy for women in sport, Jessica started this site and blog as a space to share insights, research, and real experiences from inside the game.
Here you’ll find conversations and resources around topics such as:
- Athlete development and learning in practice
- Coaching philosophy and training environments
- Women in coaching and leadership
- Body image and athlete well-being
- RED-S, nutrition, and healthy fueling
- Sport psychology and mental skills
- Parenting and supporting young athletes
- Because she coaches field hockey, you’ll find a plethora of resources for the game here as well
This space is meant to be both thoughtful and practical — a place where ideas from research meet the realities of coaching and sport.
Jessica believes strongly that shared experiences matter. Sport can be complex, demanding, and deeply meaningful, and no one should feel like they have to navigate it alone.
If there is a topic you’d like to see explored, feel free to reach out.
And one more thing worth remembering:
You matter. We need you. Stay on the bus.
